What do you think about Botox and Dermal Fillers?

This is a common question from both new and current clients.

My answer: I’m not opposed to Botox or fillers; if they work for you, then they work. However, from both a personal and professional standpoint, I prefer to avoid them as much as possible. I lean towards natural methods and aim to embrace the aging process gracefully.

What do Botox and dermal fillers really do? Botox works by blocking signals from nerves to muscles, preventing them from contracting, which essentially paralyzes the targeted muscles. For me, the idea of paralyzing muscles doesn’t feel comfortable. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are used to fill wrinkles, smooth lines, and restore volume by injecting substances into the skin. Again, the thought of injecting something to “plump” my face is unappealing to me.

These services are popular because they offer instant results, but they also come with potential side effects that many people might not be aware of.

What are some of the side effects caused by Botox and dermal fillers?

  • Facial Paralysis: If not administered correctly, Botox can cause immediate or long-term facial paralysis, leading to unnatural, frozen expressions.

  • Headaches/Migraines: By affecting blood circulation or freezing facial muscles, these treatments can lead to discomfort over time.

  • Swelling: Injected substances can disrupt lymphatic flow, causing blockages and accumulation of toxins at the injection site.

  • Skin Sensitivity: Your skin may react to injected substances, potentially becoming more sensitive immediately or over time.

  • Lymphatic System Disruption: The lymphatic system helps detoxify the body and maintain fluid balance. Disruption can lower your immune system and affect overall health.

There’s a lot of information available about the risks associated with Botox and fillers, and it’s important to consider these potential outcomes. The fact that the term “toxin” is part of Botox’s definition is a significant indicator of its nature.

So, what are other ways to maintain a youthful appearance and feel healthy? It often comes down to lifestyle. If you’re concerned about wrinkles, fine lines, or puffiness, it’s worth examining your lifestyle choices. Are you eating nutritious foods? Drinking enough water? Managing stress? Using the right skincare products and tools?
